Learning that
Goes Beyond the Classroom

Demanding work affects people beyond the end of a shift. We believe meaningful training should reach beyond the classroom, too.

Beyond Training was created with a simple goal: to make mental health, trauma exposure, and resilience education relevant to everyday life. Our focus is on helping people build understanding, have meaningful conversations, and carry what they learn into their work, relationships, and communities.

Starting with law enforcement and growing toward a broader audience, we’re building training with people at its center.

Firsthand Experience.
A Purpose to Prepare Others

Meet Michael Van Scoik

I’ve served as a first responder since 2010, working as an EMT and paramedic before becoming a police officer in 2016. Throughout that time, I’ve seen firsthand what trauma exposure can look like for the people who answer the call.

That experience is why I created Beyond Training. I’m passionate about helping fellow first responders better understand the challenges they may face and prepare to navigate the impact of demanding work—both on and off duty.

I hold a B.S. in Communication and am completing my M.A. in Psychology. My next step is a Doctor of Criminal Justice (DCJ), specializing in Public Safety Wellness, with a focus on mental health for first responders.

Beyond Training brings together my frontline experience and continuing education with a purpose that matters deeply to me: helping prepare the people who dedicate their lives to helping others.
